ASTM D describes the method for evaluating the effects on the rubber materials caused by exposure to standardized fuels, oils, and other liquids. The specific liquids, temperatures and times for testing are generally defined by the end user of the materials to meet the specific needs of the application. Test Procedure: For weight change, the initial weight of the test samples is measured and recorded. The samples are then immersed in the specified liquids in appropriate containers - volatile liquids such as fuels require special consideration.
The containers are then placed in ovens at the specified temperatures for the specified time periods. At the end of the exposure period, the samples are allowed to return to room temperature. The samples are wiped dry and the final weight is measured and recorded. Specimen size: The standard specimen is 25 x 50 x 2mm 1" x 2" x 0. Data: Weight change is expressed in percent. Standards can be obtained from appropriate standard authorities.
