Lift the seatback to its original position. Make sure the seatback is secured by attempting to lightly move it forward and back. Route the center-rear seat belt through the seat belt guide and fasten it.
Allowing a child to sit up on the folded seatback while the vehicle is moving is particularly dangerous. WARNING Always drive with the head restraints installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted: Driving with the head restraints adjusted too low or removed is In a rear-end collision, the active head restraints use the force applied by the occupant on the seatback to instantaneously move the head restraints in the forward direction, reducing excessive rearward tilting of the head and The ignition switch must be in the ON position.

Page Seat Belt Systems Wednesday, July 8 AM Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. Your vehicle has the following types of seat belts. Page 32 Using a damaged seat belt is dangerous.
An accident could damage the belt webbing of the seat belt in use. A damaged seat belt cannot provide adequate protection in a collision. Have an Authorized Mazda Dealer inspect all seat belt systems in use during an accident before they are used again. To enable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instructed on the child-restraint system. Grasp the seat belt tongue. Insert the seat belt tongue into the seat belt buckle until you hear a click sound.
Page 36 If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists. If it is still not retracting properly, have it inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer. To secure the outboard-third row seat belts when not in use, insert the belts into their seat belt retainers.
Page 37 Even if the pretensioners have not fired, the load limiting function must be checked by an Authorized Mazda Dealer. Please contact your Authorized Mazda Dealer for more information.
If you sell your Mazda, do not leave your seat belt extender in the vehicle. It could be used accidentally by the new owner of the vehicle. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer to deactivate or restore the seat belt minder. Page Child Restraint Even if the front passenger air bag is shut off, Mazda strongly recommends that children be properly restrained and child-restraint systems of all kinds are properly secured on the rear seats which are the best place for children.
Page 51 Some child-restraint systems now come with tethers and therefore must be installed on the seats that take tethers to be effective. In your Mazda, tethered child-restraint systems can only be accommodated in the three positions on the second-row seats. If the seat in which you install a child- restraint system has a seat slide function, slide the seat as far back as possible. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it back until it is fully locked.
To check if your vehicle has curtain air Even in a moderate collision, the child-restraint system can be hit by a deploying air bag and moved Page 57 If the indicator light does not illuminate after seating a child in a child-restraint system on the front passenger seat, seat a child in a child-restraint system on the rear seat and consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible. Both anchors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger.
Slide the second-row seat as far back as possible. This could weaken or damage the tether or tether anchor and result in injury. If your vehicle is equipped with a driver and front passenger occupant classification system, the front passenger air bag deactivation indicator light illuminates for a specified time after the ignition is switched ON.
Page 67 Should you sell your Mazda, we urge you to tell the new owner of its air bag systems and that familiarization with all instructions about them, from the Owner's Manual, is important.
SRS air bags are designed to work together with the seat belts to help to reduce injuries during an accident. The inflation mechanism for the front passenger air bag is the same as the driver's air bag, as mentioned above. When the air bag crash sensors detect a side impact of greater than moderate force, the curtain air bag inflates quickly and helps to reduce injury mainly to the rear outboard passenger's head caused by directly hitting interior parts such as a door or window.
Page 72 A system malfunction is indicated if the warning light constantly flashes, constantly illuminates or does not illuminate at all when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
The illustrations are the representative cases of collisions. However, in some accidents, the equipment may not deploy depending on the type of collision and its severity. Therefore, the front seat belt pretensioners and curtain air bags may not deploy.
Page 77 ON position and does not illuminate as indicated in the above chart, do not allow a child to sit in the front passenger seat and consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
