During my first few years at Crutchfield, I served as one of our Advisors, helping our customers choose new audio components for their homes and cars.
Eventually, I moved to the writing team and spent a decade researching new products and getting even more hands-on with car audio gear. I've performed many car and home audio installations over the years, some of them even on my own cars. As the editor of Crutchfield's car audio web articles, I couldn't ask for a cooler job.
We listen to music and play with car audio gear every day! Like most of us here, I've always been into music. I installed my first car stereo system before the family car was even mine. In college, I helped friends and roommates install their car stereos and set up the stereos in their apartments.
That's where I also first learned a little bit about sound mixers. These days, I serve my community by volunteering as the District Commissioner for my local district of the Boys Scouts of America. The Quick Search keys make it easy for you to pick the next song without interrupting the current tune! Planning to expand your system? The CDA's got you covered. Three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs are ready to provide signal to your outboard amps. A wireless remote control allows you or your passengers to make system adjustments while you keep your eyes on the road.

The MediaXpander function makes vocals or instruments sound distinct by restoring sound quality typically lost during recording or transmission; this function helps restore audio information that becomes obscured when audio is compressed.
The MX function can be applied to all sources, except AM radio. There are only one or two expansion modes available for external sources. MP3 files with constant and variable bit rates from 8 kbps to kbps and WMA files with constant and variable bit rates from 32 kbps to kbps are supported.
Discs recorded using Joliet or other ISSO compliant formats can be played, but file and folder names will not be displayed correctly. ID3 tag v1 and v2 are supported; track title, artist name and album name ID3 tag data can be displayed.
Disc and Station Titling: Titles of up to 8 characters in length may be entered for up to 18 radio stations and 18 CDs. The optional tuner, along with an antenna and subscription, allows you to receive XM Satellite Radio. XM Satellite Radio programming features up to channels of digital-quality music, news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming. Power Off: When an external amplifier is connected and the built-in amplifier is not used, removing power from the built-in amplifier will improve the sound quality.
Changer Controls. Alpine M-Bus CD changers cannot be controlled by this unit. Multiple Changer Control: With the addition of an optional adapter, more than one CD changer can be controlled. Disc Titling: When connected to a CD changer with disc title memory, CD titles may be entered and displayed for discs played in the changer.
