ONE day she'd like to write teenage fantasy novels, but Toowoomba schoolgirl Jess Larkin was happy to launch her career with a "cool" children's book, Finnley's Great Escape. The colourful book was officially launched at the Empire Theatre Church in Toowoomba yesterday. The Harristown High School teen and her co-writers worked with Toowoomba author Emma Mactaggart during a three-day intensive creative writing and illustration workshop to produce the book. Condamine Alliance principal project officer for science Nina Woods said the young writers and illustrators had used the project to showcase their talents and raise awareness about the threat of the pest fish tilapia. Condamine Alliance and the Rural Weekly have 10 copies of the book to give away to readers.
